Chris Evans responds to Captain America comeback rumours and he’s here for his followers’ GIF game

Chris Evans has addressed rumours he’s set to make a return to the MCU as Captain America.

The Hollywood actor, 39, had played Steve Rogers aka Captain America in all of the Marvel superhero’s movies, as well as the Avengers franchise.

Captain America’s story came to an end in Avengers: Endgame, with fans seeing Rogers choosing to stay in the past to live a life with Peggy Carter after returning the infinity stones to their right timelines.

An elderly Rogers then handed over his shield to Sam Wilson aka Falcon and fans were convinced that was a universal symbol for Captain America hanging up his boots.

But, they were given a glimmer of hope when reports revealed Captain America could be making a return to the MCU for upcoming Marvel projects, as it was claimed Evans was near a deal to make a comeback.

Sadly, though, it seems like that might have all been speculation as Evans has now responded to the rumours and insisted they are ‘news to me’.

He tweeted an emoji of a person shrugging and commented: ‘News to me.’

While his tweet was vague, his followers were convinced it was to do with the Captain America claim and pulled out their best GIF game to try and convince Evans to reconsider a return.

Our personal faves? Well, there was one GIF recreating a scene between Rogers and Tony Stark where he tells Stark: ‘Put on the suit. Let’s go a few rounds.’ We couldn’t agree more.

Another was a GIF of a woman outrageously winking alongside the tweet: ‘Sure Cap… never seen a denial like this before. But thanks for keeping it a surprise.’ A girl can dream, right?

The efforts from fans didn’t go unnoticed by Evans and he made sure to give them the recognition they deserved, tweeting again: ‘Some of the gif responses are priceless, good work, everyone.’

While his tweet suggested he was unaware of a ‘deal’ to bring back Captain America, Evans didn’t exactly say he was against the idea – in fact, he admitted to missing playing the superhero last year.

It was rumoured that he would return as Captain America for an appearance in other MCU projects, with the potential of him popping up in other franchises like Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr) had done in Captain America and Spider-Man.

Some fans, however, were against the idea, as they thought Cap heading back in time to reunite with Peggy was a ‘beautiful’ way to end his story arc, with many calling for a movie exploring Rogers and Peggy’s romance instead.

Well, we’d take what we can get.
