Gwen Stefani has revealed she discovered she had dyslexia when her children began struggling with reading.
The Rich Girl hitmaker opened up about how she has found music to be a huge help and how her kids – Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, six – are now ‘flourishing’ in school.
She explained: ‘One thing that I’ve discovered through having kids is that I have dyslexia — everyone has things that happen and mine was that.
‘And I feel like a lot of the problems that I have had or even decisions that I’ve made for myself stem from that, because now the children — obviously, it’s all genetic — they have some of those issues.’
Gwen, 51, added to Zane Lowe on his Apple Music show: ‘But now they get all these benefits. They have these incredible teachers and schools and they don’t have to have shame about it. They understand that their brain functions in a different way. All of our brains do, you know what I mean?’
The mum-of-three looked back on her own struggles at school, explaining that music has helped her to realise that her brain ‘works in different ways that are probably a gift that other people can’t do.’
Gwen shares her three children with her ex Gavin Rossdale. The pair divorced in 2016.
She has since revealed that she’s engaged to her beau Blake Shelton – and she’s not letting the coronavirus pandemic get in the way of her wedding plans.
The No Doubt singer shared the happy news on Instagram, posting a snap of herself kissing her husband-to-be with her hand in the air, showing off a ring.
She wrote in the caption: ‘@blakeshelton yes please! ??? gx.’
Country music star Blake also shared the same snap on his page, and wrote: ‘Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!’
