Disney has postponed the release date of many of its upcoming releases, including Marvel films Black Widow and Eternals, according to reports.

Black Widow had been scheduled to be released on November 6 after being postponed from its intended release date in May this year, but has now been pushed back to May 7 2021.

This is said to be due in part to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with many cinemas across the US remaining closed.

Meanwhile, Eternals will be released in November 5 2021 instead of February 12, while fellow MCU blockbuster Shang Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings has been moved from May 7 to July 9 that year.

Many other forthcoming Disney movies have suffered the same fate, including a new adaptation of West Side Story. Directed by Steven Speilberg, the musical will arrive on December 10 2021, a year later than had been planned.

Death On The Nile, the sequel to 2017’s Murder On The Orient Express, will still be released this year on December 18, being pushed back from its original October 23 release date.

And the upcoming thriller Deep Water, starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, has been delayed from November 2020 to August 2021.

However, Disney has kept the planned November release date for the upcoming Pixar movie Soul, surprising some industry figures who had expected the animated feature to be released to Disney Plus instead.

The studio has also put forward two movies which had planned to be released later: horror film The Empty Man will be released on October 23 instead of December 4, while The King’s Man, which had been scheduled for February 26 2021, has been pushed to February 12.

Many other companies have also followed suit and delayed their own productions, with many reluctant to release films while it is uncertain that cinemas in New York and Los Angeles, two of the biggest movie markets in the US, will be able to reopen.

Over in the UK, some cinemas across the country have reopened since lockdown restrictions were eased during the summer, and have not been included in the new 10pm curfew which has been introduced by the government.
