Martin Compston was treated to a sparkling birthday surprise from fans on Saturday as he celebrated the occasion in a gin garden.
As the Line of Duty star, who turned 37, is currently filming in Edinburgh, he went along to the city’s Rose Street Garden for a couple of birthday beverages with friends.
However with the recent run of the record-breaking BBC One series, it must be pretty difficult for the actor to go anywhere unnoticed.
The bar staff were ready to celebrate with Martin, presenting him with a big birthday sparkler, a box full of smoking cocktails and a line-up of staff holding placards spelling out his name.
A clip on the venue’s Instagram page showed fans cheering and clapping in the gin garden.
After attempting to approach the candle like a sparkler, Martin laughed: ‘I don’t know what to do with that!’
He then thanked bar staff with Covid-friendly elbow bumps.
Later on, the actor took to Twitter to thank everyone in Edinburgh who made his day special.
He wrote: ‘Edinburgh you were always the best looking city but way the birthday love, Covid hugs, drinks sent and get it up ye ya always said with a wink you’re straight to the top of the cool list.’
He tweeted: ‘Massive thanks for all the lovely birthday msgs really appreciated!!!No rain shall stand in the way of a pub pint today. Also the biggest of birthday love to the greatest partner in all of telly land, have a blinder mate @Vicky_McClure xx.’
Martin will be seen on our screens again soon in BBC thriller Vigil, which covers the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on board Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, bringing the police into conflict with the Royal Navy and British security services.
