Ulrika Jonsson was in fear of being ‘physically sick’ watching SAS: Who Dares Wins before she took part.

The 54-year-old is one of 12 stars competing on the new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, and was put through a condensed SAS selection course by a team team of ex-special forces soldiers led by Ant Middleton.

Ulrika revealed that she signed up to the Channel 4 show after being asked at a time of ‘dejection, sadness, despondency and bleakness’ which saw her ‘in freefall’.

However, she admitted she had never watched much of the show, writing for The Sun: ‘The snippets I had seen would set my heart racing to such an extent I’d have to switch channels for fear of being physically sick at what others were being forced to endure.’

Makes sense to sign up, then.

While Ulrika kept the details of what she endured under wraps, the former Gladiators host said that she was ‘chilled’ by the ‘fear and shock’ of the course on the island of Raasay the moment she began, following a week of isolation on the Isle of Skye.

Addressing being hooded at one point, she said: ‘It’s hard to focus in the dark, in the darkness of a black hood, when you are forced to walk like a chain gang.

‘As someone who fears authority, I was in pursuit of not stepping out of line, but I could barely walk in a straight one, such was the terror stunning my body.’

Ulrika also struggled with the physical tasks as at the time she weight seven and a half stone, just three times the weight of her backpack, something she says was ‘perhaps brought on by stress and unhappiness’.

However, she pledged not to be eliminated first or to withdraw voluntarily, so we’ll have to wait and see how Ulrika does on the show.

The star previously told Channel 4 that the experience had a ‘profoundly positive effect’ on her.

The new series will see 12 celebs ditching their glam lifestyles for gruelling physical and psychological tasks on the remote island of Raasay, in the hopes of making it to the end.

Ulrika will be joined by Loose Women star Saira Khan, Strictly winenr Ore Oduba, Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona, former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison, X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden, X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, Olympian James Cracknell, former footballer Kieron Dyer, Paralympic athlete Aled Davies, Love Island star Wes Nelson and BMX and track world champion Shanaze Reade.

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins starts at 9pm on Channel 4 on Sunday, August 29.
